Patrick was educated by the monks of Ampleforth College for whom religious belief, understanding and practice is at the very heart of life. At Oxford his History and Social Anthropology courses included documentary studies of the relationship between religion, culture and society. In his fieldwork research amongst the Iramba of Tanzania he studied at first hand their traditional religion and the influence of Islam and Christianity. He has taught GCSE Religious Studies and is particularly interested in the place of religion in the contemporary world.
